Residency is a part of multilevel system of higher education of medical professionals in the USSR and former Soviet countries. Residency, along with the internship, is a stage of postgraduate education of physicians at the Higher Educational Medical Institutes, Research Institutes, as well as Extension Course Institute for Medical Practitioners.
Clinical residency graduates in addition to a diploma of basic higher medical education are issued a standard specialist’s certificate providing with the right to an independent medical practice.
